The Chi Omega/Make-A-Wish® Alliance
Since 1895, Chi Omega Fraternity members have given their time and talent to provide service to others. In the late 1990s, the leadership in Chi Omega researched opportunities for establishing a national philanthropy, and in 2002, they announced the Chi Omega/Make-A-Wish alliance.
Since the start of this alliance, Chi Omega has raised more than 12.9 million dollars and has volunteered over half a million hours for Make-A-Wish. Because of this commitment, they recognize Chi Omega as one of their Wish Champion sponsors along with major corporations:
Our Fraternity’s goal is to have both collegiate and alumnae chapters become increasingly involved in volunteering and fundraising for Make-A-Wish and to assist in the granting of wishes to these courageous kids. Through this, all Chi Omegas can understand the importance of service to others as a founding principle of our Sisterhood. For more information about Make-A-Wish, visit wish.org.
A wish granted not only provides hope, strength and joy to a child and their family, but it can provide a wish child with the ability and willingness to comply with difficult medical treatments, and the hope gained by that wish often improves a child’s physical health. View the Chi Omega guidelines to support your local Make-A-Wish chapter.
Chi Omega chapters are encouraged to contact their local Make-A-Wish chapter, which will have numerous ideas and resources to aid chapters in planning their events. For co-branded Chi Omega/Make-A-Wish merchandise, contact Chi O Creations.
The Theta Delta chapter at Carroll has been successful in hosting our annual Chili Dinner in Spring to raise money for Make-A-Wish. In 2015, we hosted our first Wings for Wishes event and raised $3,000 dollars, which helped us grant our second Wish! In fall of 2015, we hosted our first annual Walking For Wishes and raised $500 towards granting another wish! In 2015 alone, we raised nearly $4,000 for the Make A Wish foundation and granted our second wish! In 2016, at our second annual Wings for Wishes, we raised over $2,500 and had the opportunity to host a Wish child named Lincoln, who got the chance to meet Big Foot through Make-A-Wish.
We also participate across Carroll University and the Waukesha community in service oriented activities, including recently volunteering at Tomorrow’s Choice in downtown Waukesha. We help Greek Life with the program “Take Back the Night” which is an event held with the Waukesha Women’s Center to promote an end to domestic violence and allow women and men alike to let their stories be heard. We have also volunteered at Autism Speaks and Children’s Miracle Network fundraisers and St. Vincent’s Place in Waukesha.
Our sisters here at Carroll University not only volunteer their time with their sisters, but also individually. Our chapter has had THREE sisters that are interns at Make-A-Wish Wisconsin, proving that Chi Omega’s partnership with Make-A-Wish impacts both our personal and professional lives.
We granted our second Wish in Spring 2015! We were given the opportunity to gift a young boy with a special aquarium, which resembles the same aquarium that gave him hope while he was receiving treatment at the hospital:
Help us grant our third wish!
