Founder’s Day

We are unbelievably proud of our Fraternity. Now 118 years strong, it has provided us all with a home away from home and a driving force behind us. We would like to share the kind words our National President shared with us today.

Dear Sister,

Happy 118th birthday to Chi Omega! As I reflect on our proud history and our Sisterhood, one word keeps coming to my mind: Appreciation.

I have so much appreciation for all that our Sisters do to keep Chi Omega “ever at heart.” In the past twelve months, I’ve gotten to witness Chi Omegas in action, giving back their time and talents to our beloved Sisterhood.

Whether they were organizing a chapter anniversary, sharing stories about their successes in The Eleusis, contributing to workshop discussions at Convention 2012 or Firesides 2013, or even just calling a Sister to say hi, I so appreciate everything Chi Omegas do to help our Fraternity continue to flourish.

In addition, members of the Governing Council and I want to show our appreciation for the following:

  • Our wonderful collegiate and alumnae chapter leadership. I want to thank all of our chapter officers for their hard work. These leadership roles carry much responsibility. Your Sisters have selected you to lead because we believe you will uphold the high standards of Chi Omega and strive for excellence.
  • The re-colonization of Chi Omega’s Upsilon Delta Chapter at the University of Miami and Pi Beta Chapter at the University of Minnesota. The re-colonizations will take place in fall 2013. While it is always special to open a Chi Omega chapter, it is particularly poignant to reopen a chapter on a campus where Chi Omega has been previously. Chi Omega is excited to also colonize a new chapter at Quinnipiac University in the fall!
  • A successful Convention 2012 in Phoenix, AZ and Firesides 2013 in Memphis, TN!  The programming focus at Convention was on recruitment and at Firesides it was on Panhellenic. These two topics are critical components for Chi Omega and Greek life to continue to be successful on our campuses.
  • Over 4,500 alumnae who volunteer their time and talents to give back to our beloved Fraternity. Our alumnae are critical in Chi Omega’s continued success. Many in the Greek community are amazed at the commitment and the number of our alumnae volunteers. But never fear, there is always room for additional help!
  • Generous Sisters, friends, and family members who give back to Chi Omega through the Chi Omega Foundation. Your support enables Chi Omega to continue to provide world-class programming for members of all ages, including risk management training for our 22,000 collegiate members. I hope you have participated in the first “Sisters Honoring Sisters” opportunity this week!

As our Fraternity celebrates another outstanding year, Chi Omega is particularly appreciative for a special opportunity that only happens every 52 years: Our very own former S.H. Jean Mrasek will be rotating into the National Panhellenic Conference Chairman position in October 2013. It will be an important biennium for Chi Omega to showcase its leadership within NPC and also a wonderful chance for us to educate Sisters about the importance of Panhellenic good will.

Whether it’s catching up with a Sister over ice cream, attending an alumnae chapter event, or maybe even displaying your favorite owl decoration, I hope that you feel the love of our Chi Omega Sisterhood.  And last, but most importantly, I appreciate you!

Letitia Fulkerson, S.H.
